Engineering Progress: Dana Point Harbor Parking Structure Opens as Part of Major Revitalization

A new chapter begins at Dana Point Harbor with the completion of its 984-stall parking structure, supported by GMU’s geotechnical and special inspection services.

GMU Engineers and Geologists is proud to celebrate the grand opening of the 984-stall parking structure at Dana Point Harbor—a key milestone in the long-anticipated revitalization of this beloved coastal destination.

As part of the multi-phase Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project, GMU provided geotechnical observation and testing services throughout grading and site development. This included the installation of 591 Geopier ground improvement elements, each tagged into bedrock to provide a stable foundation for the structure. GMU also supported the realignment of Golden Lantern (now Harbor Way) and the installation of utility improvements designed to serve future phases of the harbor redevelopment.

In addition to geotechnical services, GMU provided Special Inspection services on critical components of the parking structure and associated buildings:

  • Reinforced concrete and CMU walls

  • Post-tensioned beams and structural decks

  • Structural steel welding across multiple structures

Our work also extended to the Boater Services Building and other key support structures, ensuring safe, durable, and code-compliant construction in every phase.

This opening not only brings enhanced access and modern infrastructure to the harbor but also marks the beginning of what’s to come—including new restaurants, shops, and public amenities that will transform Dana Point Harbor into a world-class waterfront experience.

Congratulations to the development team at Dana Point Harbor Partners:Burnham-Ward Properties, R.D. Olson Development, and Bellwether Financial Group—we’re proud to be on this journey with you.
