- Big Rock Mesa Landslide and Rambla Pacifica Landslide in Malibu
- South Shore Landslide in Rancho Palos Verdes
- La Conchita Landslide in Ventura County
- Mystic Lane Landslide
- Laguna Beach Landslide
- Via Estoril Landslide
Instrumentation included inclinometers, tilt meters, piezometers, multi-stage extensometers and surface monuments.
Major Land Development
GMU has been involved in the development and construction monitoring of many major land developments in Orange County. Select developments where instrumentation was utilized include:
- Crystal Cove Community, Newport Coast, CA
- Ladera Ranch Master Planned Community, Orange County, CA
- Sendero of Rancho Mission Viejo, Orange County, CA
- Las Flores Community, Orange County, CA
- Rancho Niguel, Laguna Niguel, CA
Instrumentation included in-grading and post-grading slope inclinometers, piezometers for loading induced pore pressure response, surface monuments, surface and deep settlement monuments, and seismographs for vibration monitoring.
Public Works Projects
GMU has an extensive resume for geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring of highly visible Public Works projects throughout California. These projects include:
- Main Street Bridge (Pile Driving), Temecula
- San Diego Creek Revetment Stabilization (Sheet Pile Driving),Irvine, CA

- All American Asphalt Quarry, (Blasting), Corona, CA
- El Paseo Bridge
- Malibu Sewer replacement
Instrumentation for these projects included one or more of the following: sound monitoring, vibration monitoring, inclinometers and tiltmeters.
Tunnel and Dam Projects
To monitor the effects of tunneling operations, GMU provides geotechnical and structural instrumentation services. Our expertise with various types of geotechnical instrumentation has helped our clients execute various tunneling operations efficiently with minimal impact. GMU employs manual and remote real time monitoring systems for vibrations, cracks, and movement to the world above. Our tunnel and dam project experiences are:
- San Vicente Dam, Lakeside, CA
- Folsom Dam Spillway, Folsom, CA
- Narrow II Powerhouse Bypass Project, Yuba County, CA
- Lake Hodges Pump House Shaft Excavation, Escondido, CA
Special Projects/Research
For the O.I.I. Landfill in Monterey Park GMU staff collected and analyzed seven years of monitoring for an array of instruments including: surface monuments, inclinometers, extensometers, accelerometers, and piezometers. An evaluation of the monitoring results was published in ASCE Special Publication No. 53.
