Landslide Projects

GMU’s staff has worked on some of the largest and most high-profile landslide repairs in Southern California, including the La Conchita landslide in Ventura County, the Via Estoril/Crown Valley Parkway landslide in Laguna Niguel and the Big Rock Mesa landslide in Malibu. Our engineers have conducted detailed investigations to determine why slides occur and have engineered innovative solutions to stabilize hillsides and allow for safe re-development.

Big Rock Mesa, Malibu

GMU staff were involved in a comprehensive geotechnical engineering evaluation for the 136-acre Big Rock Mesa landslide in Malibu. Work consisted of deep continuous core borings, thousands of feet of geophysical logging, installation of various types of geotechnical instrumentation, assessment of existing dewatering wells, design and construction of new dewatering wells, installation of horizontal drains, geologic mapping, hydro-geologic evaluation, stability analyses and development of remediation options.
