GMU History

GMU has been committed to a core set of values for more than 40 years.  And while we’ve gone through a few name changes over that time – taking on the names and expertise of our growing leadership - we’ve never lost sight of our dedication to innovation, ambition, commitment and industry stewardship.

We began in 1968 as Evans, Goffman & McCormick, and quickly gained a solid reputation for providing geotechnical services on large grading projects.  Gary Urban joined the firm in 1978, and over time became an owner and the company’s president.  In 1993, the firm became known as Goffman, McCormick & Urban (GMU).

Greg Silver joined GMU in 1997 as a Principal and Vice President, expanding the firms list of geotechnical services provided.  Eight years later, GMU acquired Lejman Geotechnical, further expanding our expertise and adding Mike Moscrop as a Principal.  “Geotechnical” was added to the firm’s name shortly after, forming GMU Geotechnical, Inc.

Today we seek to offer the same cost-effective, innovative solutions we’ve provided hundreds of clients since those early days, when innovation, commitment, principal involvement, regional activity and industry stewardship became our way of life.
